Health
On average, more than 1/3 of our [US] youth are now obese -and growing. As that average rises, and our youth grow, so unfortunately will our population with diabetes, with cardiovascular disease, with high blood-pressure, and -yes- even our healthcare costs. Unfortunately the only thing that won’t continue to rise is our average life-expectancy; that will drop.
Fitness
Approximately 1/3 of our youth do not participate in sports or outdoor physical activities, for any substantial amount of time. Youth who are not fit today, are more likely to be just as unfit as adults. What we [generally] call fitness, refers to as [us] having good physical condition, or being in shape. Fitness is not Health, but does have a large tangible impact upon it; the link is often made between our excess fat and that of diseases it accompany its presence. The notion is: if we are more fit, we have less excess fat, and thus, less health issues.
Fun
Roughly 1/3 of our youth spend one hour or more playing video games each day. They don’t play because they’re told to, they don’t play to learn something, they play for fun. While we love games and gamers alike, we abhor how sedentary they can make us. It is critical that we now shift from frequent sedentary [on-the-couch] play to active [moving] play. We must apply the fun found in games to fitness; we must attain fitness for health applications. >> We must make fitness fun!
