Kids Are In Need of Support: Help Today
the PLEA: I need you to help fight childhood obesity by helping make fitness fun for kids. To do this, I need your support finishing a game, taking it from “nice prototype” to “product,” and help bringing it to market. I need your donation for more engineering support, to create art assets, a small amount of marketing, and an overall tailoring of the game for kids. Once completed, I will give the game away for nothing; no charge; nada;FREE.
the FACTS: Approximately 1/3 of US adolescents are not fit, don’t participate in sports, play 1+ hour of video games per day, and are continuing to destroy their health. This is a BIG problem, a perfect storm. Without new and creative actions to connect with kids, we are sure to face continuing health declines. the HOPE: To make fitness fun! Let’s change the way our kids feel about physical activities. We must address health, obesity and fitness in a manner that works within today’s realities; kids are too sedentary, like games, and spend lots of time digitally connected. This reality is why we must make fitness fun; we must make it a game. Doing so would motivate adolescents to be more active, get them outside, and connect them with others who are active. All people are driven by [it] enjoyment and engagement, and if we have that, we have participation, we have results. While kids call it fun, we call it progress. We are working with The Appalachian Health Summit, Apps for Healthy Kids, Genesis Healthcare Shaping Futures Committee, Games for Health, and Health 2.0.
the GAME: “It’s like Guitar Hero® for running” – The player walks, jogs, or runs in pace with the beat of the music, matching each step on time. With only a mobile device, and set of headphones, the challenge is to match your footsteps (i.e. your pace) to the rhythm of the music you hear. The music becomes the fitness routine, driving and engaging physical motions, making fitness a fun activity. Players also learn stretches, are tested on reaction speeds, can earn personal high scores, challenge friends to races, and share progressions with others through Facebook and Twitter. [See a Cool Concept Point] [See the Game in Action] [See me Run / Play] Currently designed for compatibility with most Android devices. Today’s prototype has many features including: One Training Mode, two Play Modes, and the aforementioned features, -but we have yet to refine elements. Adolescents & adults love it, but we want to make it adaptive to other kid-friendly activities.
